30 things to do when you can't spend money

If you follow me on Instagram you've seen my recent posts on pulling the reigns in tighter on the budget. New expenses + lower income + crazy life = lots of cut backs and cut outs. Not all bad. Just different. So, in my explorations of what it means to be cutting back I thought I would post some freebie (or almost free) fun things to do.

  1. Go shopping in your own closet. I am currently on this mission. I am taking all my gazillion pins on pinterest, the items in my own closet, and my imagination to put together some pieces for free. Things I have never thought about! It's been fun so far.
  2. Clean out a closet! I know this sounds boring but seriously, there is so much freedom to do what you must when you can't do what you want
  3. Text a friend and ask how they are and how you can be praying.
  4. Actually pray for them.
  5. On that note, start a prayer journal. This has been the number one most encouraging thing I have started in the past 6 months. I have mine broken down into categories and pray through each of them every day and frequently go back through to see where and how God has worked. I'll work on a post about my prayer journal.
  6. Go through your craft supplies that you already have and make something!
  7. Make a new recipe.
  8. Go for a walk.
  9. Pick up a book from that shelf you have avoided.
  10. Start a blog. I know that there are so many resources out there telling you to buy a domain and make it big and if your goal is to become an income blogger than please follow this advice. But if you are looking for a hobby and something free, Blogger and Wordpress are free to start blogs and it can provide some fun.
  11. Do some Bible journaling...even if you don't have a journal Bible use an empty notebook.
  12. Do some spring cleaning on your Facebook. Admit it, we all have those pictures from middle school, angsty statuses, and links we've shared that have no relevance any longer. Shake down your profile a bit and clean it up!
  13. Practice your handwriting.
  14. Paint your nails.
  15. Try a new hairstyle.
  16. Try a 30 day workout challenge. There are so very many all over Pinterest.
  17. Volunteer.
  18. Practice a new hobby.
  19. Participate in a photography challenge.
  20. Sell something. You have to have something lying around the house that just isn't being used or desired anymore. Why not get some buck for it?
  21. Learn a new language. There are apps upon apps upon apps for learning a new language...and they are free. Check one out!
  22. Catch up on the news.
  23. Work on the yard.
  24. Deep clean something.
  25. Meet your neighbors.
  26. Watch a movie...you already have.
  27. Go to a park.
  28. Look up your city's historical landmarks and visit a few. So many of them are free to walk around.
  29. Sell yourself. Ask around to see if anyone needs their yard mowed, their kids sat, their dog walked, their walls painted, their errands run...the list is endless. If you can't be spending money, why not make it!?
  30. Look up freebies. There are so many places to get freebies at any point. There are freebies for birthdays, purchases, to try a new product, etc. Enjoy!
